Information on Email Phishing

Email phishing is an Internet virus or scam similar to keylogging and trojans. People use phishing to steal identities and money from others.

  1. Definition

    • Dictionary.com defines phishing as, "A method of identity theft carried out through the creation of a website that seems to represent a legitimate company." Customers then submit their information and thieves use the information to steal their money and identity.

    Problems

    • Phishing happens when you click a link or download a file from an unknown user. Often there are no warning signs.

    Precautions

    • Only download links from friends, family and colleagues. Do not give out any information to anyone if asked. A bank will never ask for your information over the Internet.
