Dove Hunting in Hondo, Texas
Located in south-central Texas' Medina County, the city of Hondo is located in both the Central Dove-Hunting Zone and the Special White-Winged Dove-Hunting Zone, two of four statewide dove-hunting areas that are regulated by Texas' Department of Parks and Wildlife.

Central Zone

When hunting for dove in Hondo's Central Dove-Hunting Zone, which is located in all areas of Hondo north of U.S. 90, the hunting season runs from September 1 through October 24 and from December 25 through January 9. The per-day bag and per-season possession limits are 15 and 30, respectively.
Special White-Winged Dove Hunting Zone

In the areas of Hondo that are in the Special White-Winged Dove Area, which include areas south of U.S. 90 and northwest of I-35, dove hunters have the same daily and possession limits, but no more than four mourning doves and two white-tipped doves may be retained. The noon to sunset-only season runs on September 4, 5, 11 and 12, as of the 2010 through 2011 season.

Hunting Licenses and Permits

Dove hunters in Hondo must obtain a Hunting License. If hunting for mourning doves, a Migratory Bird Stamp is also required. Both the the license and stamp are available for purchase online at the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife website.
