    Food Poisoning

    • Food poisoning, or gastroenteritis, occurs when you eat undercooked, contaminated food. Some species of white fish do not contain any known toxins. Whitefish, and other species known as "white fish," contain harmful contaminates like dioxins.

    Dioxins

    • "White fish food poisoning" most often refers to food poisoning from the whitefish itself, which results from dioxins. Dioxins, a chemical contaminate, linger in fatty tissues and cause problems ranging from skin disease to an increased risk of cancer.

    Symptoms

    • Whitefish food poisoning causes chloracne, a disease identified by cases of severe acne. Additional symptoms of food poisoning include an upset stomach and vomiting.

    Treatment

    • Basic treatments for food poisoning include the replacing of fluids and electrolytes. If you fear prolonged exposure to whitefish poisoning, talk to your doctor about possible antitoxin treatments.
