Lead Crime Analyst Job Description

A lead crime analyst is responsible for following established police procedures in analyzing, researching, and preparing statistics, crime data and reports. Collecting and analyzing data is required to identify potential suspects.

  1. Responsibilities

    • A lead crime analyst utilizes the computer database system to locate, compile and analyze statistics, information and other crime data to identify potential suspects and patterns of crime. Using established quantitative and qualitative analytical methods, collect and analyze statistical information. Respond to calls and questions from outside agencies, the media and the general public related to crime analysis.

    Education and Experience

    • A bachelor's degree is required with a major in business administration, statistics, criminal justice or public administration. Experience of at least one to three years in the field is required.

    Skills

    • The ability to read and interpret journals, reports and documents is required, as well as effective communication skills. Mathematical concept skills are a must in areas such as probability and statistical inference. Strong reasoning skills are needed to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

    Salary

    • You can expect to earn anywhere from $36K to $66K as a lead crime analyst, depending on your experience and geographical location.
