Twitter Shorthand Definitions

Twitter is a social networking site that allows you to communicate with other community members through tweets of 140 characters or less. One way people have grown accustomed to such few characters is by using shorthand phrases.

  1. Benefits

    • Shorthand codes allow you to fit more words using fewer characters. For example, instead of saying "Follow this person" you can type "F." To reply to a person, you just need to type @.

    Commands

    • If you want to get the attention of someone who has been absent on Twitter, you can "nudge" him. "Stats" allow you to see how many people you follow and how many people follow you. "Get" allows you to view the last update from a specific user.

    Options

    • "Leave" is a service that allows you to keep following a person, but turns off her user updates. "On/Off username" is similar, allowing you to turn on and off alerts to your phone for specific users.
