Eviction can be a frightening prospect for any renter, particularly if they are unable to pay delinquent rent or correct lease violations in time to halt the eviction process. Fortunately, emergency eviction help does exist.

  1. Emergency Loans

    • Full-time employees of eligible companies may be able to obtain an emergency loan from their company. Check with your Human Resources department to see if your company offers this program. Repayment is done by automatic payroll deduction.

Department of Health and Human Services

    • In some states, if you are currently receiving public assistance and/or have minor children living with you, you may be able to obtain a free one-time rent assistance payment per year. Contact your local DSHS office for more information.

    Low-Cost Legal Representation

    • If you are served with and fail to respond to eviction papers within 10-30 days (depending on the state) your case will go to court. If you can’t afford legal representation to fight the eviction, ask your local DSHS for a list of local attorneys who are willing to work pro-bono (for free) or for reduced fees.
