Making your own lotion is easy with the right tools.

Making lotion does not require any special equipment. In fact, you can find most of the necessary tools right in your kitchen. Sterilize all tools or equipment before making lotion.

Measuring Tools

Measure ingredients carefully when making lotion.

Lotion making requires precise and accurate measurements of all ingredients to achieve the best results. A wide range of measurement types and sizes may be required. Small measuring spoons and cups, 2- to 4-cup liquid measuring cups and a digital scale will cover all the bases.

Mixing Tools

Using a blender saves time and effort.

Use electric blending tools, as hand mixing takes too much time and effort when making lotion. For larger batches, a cake mixer or blender work well. For smaller batches, use an immersion or stick blender.

Heating Tools

You can use stainless steel pots to heat non-sensitive ingredients.

You must melt or heat many lotion ingredients before adding them to the mix. For temperamental ingredients, use a heat-tempered glass bowl over a pot of boiling water. If burning isn't an issue, you can use a stainless steel pot.

Containers

Dark colored glass protects your lotion from light.

Put your finished lotion into appropriate containers for use and storage. Empty shampoo or lotion bottles work well, or buy new plastic or glass bottles. Use a funnel when pouring the lotion into the container to prevent spills.
