Free style writing is nonstop writing. Writers do not make corrections or guide their thoughts. The idea of free style writing is to write, to get words down on paper, and to move past the writer's block. Writers don't worry about what is being written as far as suitability and structure.
Types

The most common free style writing allows writers to explore thoughts and ideas in search of a topic or format on which to write. This free style writing can be referred to as stream of consciousness writing. One topic may run into another topic. Directed free style writing involves writing down all the information writers know about a certain topic. This involves using the components of writing like description, comparison, analysis and argument. In the classroom, directed free style writing is used before any research is undertaken so writers are clear about their knowledge and thoughts about a topic before writing.
