Dove season in Austin County occurs in the fall and winter.

The city of Austin is the capital of Texas and a great spot for dove hunting. Austin is located in the Texas Hill Country and resides in the "Central Zone," one of Texas Parks and Wildlife Departments' three statewide dove-hunting zones.

  1. Seasons

    • The Central Zone dove-hunting season in Austin runs from Sept. 1 through Oct. 24 and from Dec. 25 through Jan. 9, as of the 2010 through 2011 hunting season.

    Bag and Possession Limits

    • Austin's per-day Central Zone hunting limit for dove is 15 per hunter, per day, with a 30 per-season possession limit enforced. When using falconry, or trained-bird hunting, the per-day and per-season limits are three and six, respectively.

    Dove Leg Bands

    • In order to control Texas' dove population, doves killed with leg bands must be reported to the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife dove-band reporting hotline.

    Hunting Licenses

    • Dove hunters in Austin must be licensed with a hunting license in order to hunt during the Central Zone dove season. Licenses are available for purchase online at the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife.
