Dove Hunting in Austin, Texas
The city of Austin is the capital of Texas and a great spot for dove hunting. Austin is located in the Texas Hill Country and resides in the "Central Zone," one of Texas Parks and Wildlife Departments' three statewide dove-hunting zones.

The Central Zone dove-hunting season in Austin runs from Sept. 1 through Oct. 24 and from Dec. 25 through Jan. 9, as of the 2010 through 2011 hunting season.
Bag and Possession Limits

Austin's per-day Central Zone hunting limit for dove is 15 per hunter, per day, with a 30 per-season possession limit enforced. When using falconry, or trained-bird hunting, the per-day and per-season limits are three and six, respectively.

Dove Leg Bands

In order to control Texas' dove population, doves killed with leg bands must be reported to the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife dove-band reporting hotline.
Hunting Licenses

Dove hunters in Austin must be licensed with a hunting license in order to hunt during the Central Zone dove season. Licenses are available for purchase online at the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife.
