About U.K. Immigration
A variety of ways exist for a foreign national to immigrate into the United Kingdom. These paths usually consist of U.K. visas and work-permit options. Applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or naturalization and taking the Life in the U.K. Test are part of the process.

ILR

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) is designed for individuals who have shown a commitment to stay in the U.K. while they possessed a temporary permit. After living in the U.K. for about two to five years, you can apply for ILR. Once obtained, you can live in the U.K. for as long as you wish or apply for naturalization.
Naturalization
-
According to the U.K. government, all adults must register or naturalize to obtain citizenship within the United Kingdom. All immigrants who wish to register or naturalize must first complete a time period of ILR.
