Difference Between Windows Live & MSN Messenger

Windows Live Messenger is the service that has replaced MSN Messenger. Though there are a number of similarities between the two programs, there are a variety of new features on Windows Live Messenger.

    • MSN Messenger was a response to Yahoo! Messenger and AOL Instant Messenger that was aimed at consumers for general use. Windows Live Messenger is aimed at businesses by offering professional features and abilities that benefit businesses.

    Features

    • MSN Messenger offered users avatar options, emoticons and customized features. Windows Live Messenger is more professional with straight communication options. Video chat is easier to use with a click of the mouse, and there is not a default avatar if you have not supplied a photograph.

    Mobile

    • MSN Messenger was not available in a mobile version for cell phones. However, Windows Live Messenger is available for smart phones.
