Silverlight is a web multimedia architecture developed by Microsoft.

Silverlight is a technology developed by Microsoft to compete with Adobe's Flash technology. Silverlight allows users to experience multimedia applications via the web or desktop. Silverlight plug-ins are available for most major web browsers. Silverlight has been updated several times since it's release.

  1. Definition

    • A Silverlight update is "replacement" software offered by Microsoft when it improves the Silverlight software. Silverlight updates may also be offered to fix problems found with the software after its release.

    Security Updates

    • Microsoft frequently issues security updates for it's software, as necessary. For example, version 4.0 of Silverlight was updated to fix a possible exploit while playing Digital Rights Management files.

    Functionality Updates

    • Microsoft has issued four major versions of Silverlight. Each version added major functionalities. Typical improvements included new computing platforms, adding multimedia playback and adding new controls to the software.
