Nevada Smog Law

Nevada has smog laws that are designed to ensure air quality meet safe standards for its citizens. Related vehicle registration laws in Nevada vary by county. Emissions testing may be required depending on where you live and the age of your vehicle.

  1. Counties Requiring Emmisions Testing

    • Residents of Clark and Washoe counties have emissions testing laws. All other counties in Nevada do not require vehicle emissions testing.

    Exempt Vehicles

    • Several exemptions are allowed. Exempt vehicles include those made before 1967, vehicles that are less than 3 years old and classic vehicles driven less than 2,500 miles per year.

    Failing a Test

    • If your vehicle doesn't pass the emissions test, repairs must be made before it can be registered. You can obtain a 10-day temporary permit while you are making repairs.
