Description
-
According to an FTC complaint, Google Money Tree advertised and sold kits that it said held the secret to making more than $100,000 a year "just filling out forms and running searches on Google and Yahoo." Buyers got nothing useful for their money, the FTC said, and found that they had been automatically enrolled in a website membership that charged their credit card about $72 a month.
Identification
-
Google Money Tree was not affiliated with Google. The FTC said the scam had also operated under the names "Google Pro," "Google Treasure Chest" and "Internet Income Pro."

Action
-
The FTC sued the operators of Google Money Tree in June 2009, seeking to shut down the operation for good. Without admitting wrongdoing, the defendants agreed in September 2009 to accept an injunction barring them from selling their kits.
