Pet Medication Assistance

Pet Medication Assistance thumbnail
Financial assistance exists for pet medication.

When a pet faces unexpected illnesses or accidents, its owner might find himself not being able to afford the medication. The pet might still get the medical care it needs if the owner can get financial aid.

  1. Veterinarian Help

    • The per owner might be able to discuss his concerns with a vet, who could work out plans for gradual payment of the medication bill. The pet owner can even try offering work in return for cheaper medical bills, such as administrative work at the vet's office or cleaning kennels. Otherwise, the owner can seek vets who charge lower fees or clinics run by veterinary schools.

    Organizations

    • Some organizations primarily work to provide financial aid for animals whose owners can't afford their medication. Many of these organizations help all animals, and some specifically assist service animals. Owners of purebred animals should seek help from breed-specific medical aid organizations.

    Requirements

    • To ensure that they help only those who truly need pet medication assistance, vets and medical aid organizations might set requirements for pet owners who apply for assistance. For example, Help-A-Pet aids only physically and mentally challenged individuals, senior citizens and poor children. The organization might request proof that the pet owner is truly unable to pay for the medication, such as proof of income and estimates of medication costs from the vet.
