Pampas grass can be used as a focal point in the garden or as a perennial border. Once established, it requires very little care other than annual pruning and fertilizer. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Type

    • Fertilize pampas grass in early spring with a complete fertilizer. Use one cup of 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 fertilizer per square foot of clumped grass, or 1 to 2 pounds per 100 square feet.

    Pruning

    • Prune pampas grass in late winter. Broadcast the complete fertilizer over the soil after pruning to encourage new growth.

    Soil Test

    • When the foliage of the plant is removed, there is a significant loss of calcium and magnesium in the soil. Test the soil periodically for deficiencies and follow the test recommendations for soil amendments.

    Lawn and Grass Fertilizer

    • Lawn fertilizers applied in close proximity to pampas grass will usually provide enough nutrients for the plant to grow and bloom.
