Define Divine Justice

Divine justice is referred to in religious context as the justice carried out by God. Divine justice determines the fate of one's eternity based on the life that was led.

  1. Christianity

    • Christianity refers to God as the standard for divine justice because it is believed that whatever God wills is inherently just and righteous. Since God is the only perfect entity, it is believed only God can put forth divine justice.

    Islam

    • Islam also refers to God or Allah as the epitome of justice. Many Muslims believe that it is not only necessary to believe in Allah but it is also necessary to believe that Allah's divine justice is free from error.

    Judaism

    • Judaism shares a similar belief as Christianity and Islam regarding divine justice. Judaism believes in 613 God-given commandments. If all are carried out they can lead to divine salvation.

    Free Will

    • Monotheistic religions believe God blessed men and women with free will but its misuse has led to evil. God determines divine justice based on the use of free will for good or evil.

    Contradictions

    • Contradictions exist in the belief of divine justice by monotheistic religions. For example, some question why so many injustices exist in the world throughout the human race. Also called into question is the fate of children who die before they are able to use their free will.
