Social workers, often known as case managers, deal with individuals who may be facing the most stressful time of their lives. They must behave with ethics and integrity to their credit and that of the profession.

  1. Serve

    • A social worker serves selflessly, as the focus of the profession is to help those in need. She is strongly encouraged to volunteer some portion of her time and services with no pay.

    Justice

    • The social worker pursues the betterment of vulnerable populations, especially in the areas of discrimination, poverty or unemployment. He seeks justice for all, regardless of ethnic or cultural differences.

    Dignity

    • The social worker recognizes that each person deserves worth, dignity and respect. She understands she is responsible to both her clients and the public.

    Relationships

    • A social worker understands that people change through the vehicle of relationships. He promotes the welfare of individuals and neighborhoods.

    Trust and Competence

    • A social worker holds a position of public trust and should behave accordingly. She does not practice outside her area of expertise, but works to better the profession.
