Holsters come in many forms, including belt holsters and shoulder holsters. Belt holsters are preferred by those on the move and are worn by attaching it to a belt; shoulder holsters are strapped around each shoulder and are ideal for those who sit for long periods.

  1. Belt Holster

    • Belt holsters can be divided into two main categories: duty holster and CCW holster. Each type serves a different function and can be worn in a number of positions such as crossdraw, small of back and strongside.

    Duty Belt Holster

    • Duty holsters need to have a good balance between speed of draw and retention level. Most duty belts are worn on the strong side to allow for even faster access when drawing the weapon.

    CCW Belt Holster

    • Concealed carry belt holsters are built to handle compact and subcompact handguns, which are lighter to carry and easier to conceal. Conceal carry holsters are typically worn on the small of the back or on the dominant side.

    Shoulder Holster

    • Shoulder holsters also come in a large variety, with the two most popular being vertical shoulder holsters and horizontal shoulder holsters. They are comprised of two straps that come together much like a backpack with the holster being placed on the dominant hand side.

    Vertical Shoulder Holster

    • When wearing a vertical shoulder holster, the gun is placed in a vertical position with the muzzle facing downward. Vertical shoulder holsters are most often worn by individuals carrying a larger and heavier handgun.

    Horizontal Shoulder Holster

    • Horizontal shoulder holsters position the handgun in a horizontal position with the barrel pointed away from the body. Such holsters are most often worn by those who want to conceal a smaller handgun.

I'm more of a shoulder holster kind of guy. It's not as apt to get tangled in the branches when I swing to my dominate side. Of course there is something to be said for the c.c.w. when intimadation or stealth is required (not as much chaffeing). Shucks, either one's good for getting off that all important "snap shot" in the heat of battle. If you've seen my pic, then you know, I can handle myself in any situation. Although my aim ain't what it used to be. And my trigger finger gets caught between the foible and gauntlet when I try the stukineray manauver. That'll work itself out though cause I'm going verticle when my 44 mag comes in. And to all you "duty" wearing freeks out there, just stay out of my way. I've seen what bad retention levels can do to those poor saps on the ground. They never see it comming. Anyway, whichever way you go, belt or shoulder, you gotta follow your...
