Purpose of a Wedding Announcement
If your wedding is fast approaching, or you are hosting the ceremony for your son or daughter, it may be necessary to send out a few wedding announcements. These documents differ from wedding invitations and save the date cards, but still serve a specific purpose.
-
Significance
-
The significance of sending a wedding announcement is simply to inform the recipient that the wedding has occurred. These announcements are often sent to business associates of the couple's parents in order to inform colleagues of the joyous occasion.
Sending Wedding Announcements
-
In addition to coworkers of the couple's parents, wedding announcements can also be sent to friends or loved ones who will not be able to make the wedding, or to individuals that did not make the guest list due to space. The announcements often serve as a keepsake for people who were not able to attend the ceremony.

Buying a Gift
-
The purpose of sending a wedding announcement is not to make the recipient feel as though giving a gift to the bride and groom is required. Some individuals may willingly give the newlyweds a present, but having to do so should not be implied anywhere on the wedding announcement.
Ordering Announcements
-
Since the wedding announcements are considered wedding stationery, they should be ordered at the same time as the invitations and save the date cards. It is best to address the announcements when addressing the invitations; however, these two items are not mailed at the same time.
Sending Wedding Annoucements
-
It is appropriate to drop the wedding announcements in the mail the morning of the wedding. This way, all recipients will have the announcement after the nuptials have taken place.
