The National Playground Safety Institute provides training and certification for individuals interested in becoming playground inspectors. Inspectors are certified to inspect playgrounds for safety issues. Certification is required or preferred by many employers.

  1. Training

    • Training is available throughout the U.S. Classes are held for two days, with the exam on the third day.

    Testing

    • A computerized certification test is offered at 1,500 centers across the United States. There are 150 questions on the exam covering topics such as general administration, programming and operations management. Practice exams and training manuals are available if you aren't able to attend a training session.

    Registration

    • Registration is available online.

    Certification

    • Certification is active for three years following examination. Retake the exam every three years to stay current in the field.

    Tips

    • Consider joining the National Parks and Recreation Association to receive a discount on training and certification fees.
