Job Description for a Medical Assistant in a Plastic Surgery Practice
Under the supervision of a plastic surgeon, a medical assistant in a plastic surgery practice provides quality patient care by assisting the physician in a clinical setting and participating in the patient care delivery process.

Requirements for becoming a plastic surgery medical assistant include obtaining a high school diploma or GED; certification as a medical assistant through an accredited medical assistant program; and one year experience as a medical assistant.
Functions

Part of being a medical assistant is having a professional demeanor among the physicians, staff, and patients; being able to work in a team-oriented environment; having strong interpersonal and communication skills; and having excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include assisting the doctor when needed; scheduling patients for consultations and surgeries; filing medical records; scanning; charting; checking vital signs; preparing patients' charts; and answering phones.
Work Environment

This position consists of working in a well-lit, clean environments. Medical assistants must be able to interact with various individuals on a daily basis and may have to handle multiple responsibilities at once.

According to PayScale, in July 2010, the average hourly wage for a plastic surgery medical assistant was $14.50 an hour.
