Telesales requires a personable phone voice.

Telesales or telemarketing employees use telephones to sell products and services, often to customers whom they cold call. They read scripts to explain the advantages of a company and can answer basic sales questions.

  1. Basics

    • Telemarketers make a base hourly rate of $8.25 to $11.35 per hour, with overtime of $11.59 to $15.92 as of July 2010 according to the PayScale Report.

    Salary

    • Telemarketers make much of their income through commissions and bonuses. Adding annual bonuses of $380 to $4,933 and commissions of $1,539 to $12,154 produces a total yearly salary of $18,784 to $29,968.

    Experience

    • The greater the experience, the higher the income. For example, telesales employees with one to four years of work earn $23,271 to $34,706, while those with 20 or more years make $20,769 to $45,000.

    Size

    • Company size has an uneven effect on compensation with income peaking at $27,000 to $47,500 in offices of 10 to 49 employees. Those working for companies with 200 to 599 earn less at $17,000 to $30,030.

    Outlook

    • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for all sales jobs, including telesales, will grow by seven percent from 2008 to 2018, which is average. This should produce only average salary gains.
