Aquarium Rocks & Coral Decorating
There's something infinitely relaxing about watching fish swimming back and forth inside of a tank. A tank with just fish is boring, though, and to capture the essence of an underwater paradise elements like rock and coral have to be included. Does this Spark an idea?

Types

Coral can be a colorful addition to any tank. Selecting rocks and corals for a tank can be a challenge. Rock isn't just rock; there's Texas Holey rock, a limestone rock that will slowly dissolve in the tank, and there's live rock, so called because of the organisms that live in it. There's choices when it comes to coral, too: live, dead or fake.
Considerations
-
Don't be alarmed when living rock begins to change color. When included in a tank environment, live coral and living rock will often change appearances as they settle into their environment and as the organisms that create them mature, reproduce and die. What is put in the tank isn't necessarily what it will look like in a few months, so don't get hung up on coordinating the color of a tank with the room's decor.

Benefits
-
Coral gives fish a place to hide. Living rock and coral doesn't just look pretty; both act as a natural filter for the water in the tank. Just as important, those decorative little nooks and crannies in the rock and coral serve another purpose: hiding spots. Many fish need hiding places to feel safe and giving them that will help keep the fish healthy.
Misconceptions
-
Coral can also serve as decorative pieces outside a fish tank. Coral and aquarium rocks aren't just for fish tanks. With a little creativity, the non-living kind can be made into decorative platforms for candles or potpourri, bookends, or even just standalone statues. This can be an elegant, natural way to accent a room with a beach theme or a room that includes a few coral patterned rugs or walls.
