Burnishing with glitter is an easy way to decorate cards.

Burnishing glitter is an easy craft technique that almost anyone can accomplish in a short amount of time. This technique can be used to spruce up pre-printed cards or to create original designs.

  1. Technique

    • The burnished glitter technique is accomplished by pressing and rubbing glitter into tape to release the sheen of the glitter. When finished, this technique gives a brushed velvet feel and look to the project. Burnishing the glitter also keeps the glitter firmly embedded into the project, which keeps it from falling off.

    Supplies

    • Glitter burnish can be accomplished with a minimal amount of supplies such as ultra-fine glitter, card stock, scissors and double-sided tape. Card stock can be purchased blank to apply an original design or with a pre-printed image to burnish with glitter.

    Uses

    • Glitter burnishing is commonly used to make greeting cards, scrapbooking pages and invitations.

    Ease

    • Burnishing glitter is a simple technique that can be accomplished by both children and adults in just a few minutes. Since there are no toxic chemicals or heat used it is especially appropriate for children's craft projects. This technique also lends itself well to adult class projects.

    Cost

    • The cost of burnishing glitter is relatively inexpensive. Many of the supplies needed to burnish glitter are already available in most households. The biggest determining factor to the cost will be the quality and price of the card stock that is purchased.
