SIA Close Protection Training
A close protection officer is a bodyguard. The United Kingdom requires close protection officers to complete an approved Security Industry Authority (SIA) training course and obtain a license.

Security Industry Authority and Trainers
-
The SIA oversees the licensing and training of private security positions. SIA trainers are required to hold a Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector or a higher level certificate.
Training Requirements
-
The SIA Level 3 Close Protection course is the training required for close protection officers. This course requires a minimum of 150 hour of training in both classroom and practical skills. Training topics include legal issues, threat assessment, surveillance awareness and reconnaissance. Driving techniques and route planning are also covered.

First Aid
-
In order to obtain a Close Protection License, individuals will also need to obtain either the First Aid at Work or First Person on Scene Certificate. Some SIA training programs include this course work in their program.
License
-
An SIA license is obtained after completing the training course. The license is valid for three years. As of 2010, the fee for the license is £245.
Types of License
-
There are two types of Close Protection Licenses. The front-line license is for individuals working in the field as close protection officers. This license also allows the individuals to manage and supervise other officers in the field. The non-front line license is for owners, directors, and supervisors who employ close protection agents but are not working in the field themselves.
