Residents of Arkansas required to file income tax returns each year hope that when tax filing time rolls around they’ll receive an income tax refund rather than owe the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration additional taxes. Not all Arkansas residents are required to file income tax returns.

  1. Refund Status

    • The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration allows taxpayers to check the status of their Arkansas tax refund on their website by using their Refund Inquiry link.

    Time Frame

    • The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration recommends waiting at least ten days after electronically filing your tax return to check the status of your refund. Refund information is not posted until your return has been processed.

    Considerations

    • Taxpayers that mailed a paper return to the Department of Finance and Administration are asked to wait at least four weeks before attempting to obtain the status of their tax refund. If you filed after the first of March, the DFA recommends waiting six weeks.

    Refund Method

    • Refunds are sent to Arkansas taxpayers in two different ways. The Department of Finance and Administration allows you to choose between having a check mailed to your or having your refund issued as a direct deposit.

    Benefits

    • Taxpayers that choose to file their tax returns electronically will receive their refund two to four weeks faster than those who file by mail provided there are no mistakes on the return. If mistakes are found on any tax return, your refund will be delayed.
