Auto mechanics are tasked with diagnosing and repairing engine problems of various vehicles. As of May 2009, auto mechanics earned approximately $37,000 per year while those who specialized in buses, trucks and diesel engines made just over $40,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
