What Do I Need to Work in England?
If a job opportunity is offered to you in the United Kingdom, you cannot just go over to the country with a passport in hand to work. Those looking to work in the United Kingdom must obtain a work permit prior to beginning a job.
-
Visa
-
A work permit is another name for a work visa. Anyone staying in the United Kingdom for more than 90 days must obtain a visa. If you want to work in England you must get the visa specified for working.
Documents
-
To obtain a visa, you must have a valid passport, financial documentation, proof of sponsorship, two passport-size photographs and proof of accommodation.
-
Passport
-
If you do not have a passport, you must apply for one at your local post office. You can download the application off the Internet from the Department of State or U.S. Embassy's websites. You should have it completed before your meeting at the post office with the passport official. Read the application to assure you take the proper documents with you (such as your identification card and birth certificate).
Application
-
The work permit application must be downloaded and filled out completely. As a United States citizen, the application can be filed online.
Embassy
-
Schedule a meeting to verify all the information at the UK Embassy. You will need to provide a finger print and photographic identification at this meeting. This must be done for anyone applying for a first-time visa.
