Elk Hunting in Nevada

Most hunters prefer other Western states over Nevada, according to Big Game Hunt. However, Nevada does offer limited elk hunting opportunities if you are a resident of the state or a visiting hunter.

  1. Location

    • Large expanses of Nevada are open, public land where you can hunt. According to Big Game Hunt, the best places in the state to look for elk are the mountain ranges in the center portion of the state.

    Education

    • Like all states, Nevada requires you undergo hunter education before getting your license. However, if you received hunter education in another state, it is also reciprocal with Nevada.

    License

    • A hunting license in Nevada costs $140, according to Big Game Hunt. Once you get your license, you most pay an additional $500 for a cow elk tag or $1,200 for a bull elk tag.

    Time Frame

    • Most elk hunting takes places in November in Nevada. However, muzzleloading hunters are allowed to hunt a few weeks earlier, and archers can hunt in August and September.

    Considerations

    • According to Big Game Hunt, hunting for elk during rutting season is prohibited.
