Software to Clear Internet History

People who use your computer can access your Internet history at will unless you clear it often. Doing so also keeps more space free on your computer. There are programs available to remove your Internet history effectively.

  1. CCleaner

    • CCleaner is made by Piriform, a UK-based software firm that, according to the About page at Piriform.com, is a Microsoft Certified Partner. CCleaner is free, although the makers welcome donations to support the software, and runs on Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

    Privacy Guardian

    • Privacy Guardian's maker claims the software erases your Internet history, but goes even farther by making the information unrecoverable from your hard drive. Privacy Guardian has a free trial and only clears certain things unless you purchase the program. It is designed for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

    Privacy Eraser

    • Privacy Eraser's website claims that the software meets and exceeds the U.S. Department of Defense and National Security Administration clearing and sanitizing standards. Privacy Eraser has a free trial and only clears certain things unless you purchase the program. It runs on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

    SuperCleaner

    • SuperCleaner's website claims that the software deletes even hard-to-find Internet history files and renders them unrecoverable, even with data recovery software. You have to pay for the program after the trial ,and it will run on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

    Browser Tools

    • Web browsers have their own methods of cleaning out cookies and history, but they do not clean anywhere near as much from your computer as software dedicated to that purpose.
