    Education

    • The majority of shoe sales associates can be hired with no more than a high school diploma. Typically more important than a formal education is a willingness to learn and develop sales skills while on the job.

    • Jobs for retail salespersons are expected to increase by 8 percent through 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    Earnings

    • Most shoe sales associates receive a base salary along with a commission. According to PayScale.com, retail salespersons earned anywhere from around $8 to more than $10 per hour in June 2010.
