About Wooden Rowing Boats
Wooden rowboats are intended for recreational use on small bodies of water. You can find wood rowboats being used for exercise, fishing or relaxed sightseeing.

Strip Construction
-
Many rowboats are made from a strip construction, in which strips of wood are placed over a wooden frame. This is a time-consuming boat-building method that usually provides an extremely beautiful and functional boat.
Stitch and Glue Construction
-
Stitch and glue construction is another method to build a wooden rowboat. This method uses plywood pieces that are glued together with epoxy. This boat-building method is faster than the strip method and provides a functional but less beautiful boat.

Other Materials
-
Rowboats are also made from aluminum. Aluminum rowboats can have a longer life than a wooden boat, but they are hot to the touch in summer and can develop leaks from their riveted panels.
Misconceptions
-
People occasionally think of racing shells as rowboats. This is not the case. Racing shells are manned by athletes and are used in competition. Rowboats, on the other hand, are usually used for pleasure or light exercise.
Warning
-
Rowboats are small and therefore not as stable as many larger recreational boats. Always wear personal flotation when in a wooden rowboat.
