EMTs provide medical care and procedures in emergencies.

Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) are trained to provide medical care and procedures in emergencies. EMT online training consists only of the academic portion of the EMT training. Students must also attend hands-on training.

  1. Certification

    • Each state administers its own EMT certification exam. National certification also is available through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

    Training Levels

    • Different levels of EMT training and certification are available: First Responder, EMT - Basic, EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic.

    Classes

    • Online EMT classes typically include anatomy and physiology, effects of drugs on the body (pharmacology), patient care and basic instruction in EMT techniques that will continue in the hands-on portion of the training.

    Presentation

    • Presentation of online EMT training often includes videos and interactive tutorials in addition to reading material.

    Considerations

    • EMT requirements vary by state, so if you are taking an out-of-state EMT online training, make sure it meets your state's requirements.
