Both Soldiers and Marines are assigned Military Occucational Specialties.

In both the Army and the Marine Corps, all enlisted personnel are assigned a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). The Army MOS code takes the form of a two-digit number followed by a letter. Marine MOSs are four-digit numbers.

  1. Infantry

    • General infantrymen in the Army are classified as 11B. Indirect infantrymen, who handle mortars and antitank weapons are 11Cs. In the Marine Corps Infantrymen have an MOS of 0300.

    Military Intelligence

    • The Army MOS for linguists is 35P, while intelligence analysts are coded 35F. Marine Corps linguists have an MOS of 2670. Their Intelligence Specialist have an MOS of 0231.

    Food Service

    • Food Service Specialists in the Army are assigned the code 92G. Their equivalent in the Marine Corps is also called a Food Service Specialist and has an MOS of 3381.

    Field Artillery

    • The Army has several positions in the field artillery branch including cannon crewmember (13B) and field artillery meteorological crewmember (13W). Their Marine counterparts are the field artillery cannoneer (0811) and the artillery meteorological man (0847).

    Legal

    • In the Army, the Paralegal Specialist (27D), provides support to Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) officers. Marine Corp JAG officers rely on the legal services specialist (4421).
