Data Architect Job Description
In the field of Information Technology (IT) the data architect is hired by companies to create and implement a design for the storage and maintenance of data or to improve an existing system, called the Database Management System (DBMS).

Consistently Available Data

Data architects are usually responsible for the operation and implementation of database systems and coordinating strategies for programing and security standards. Their main task is keeping the database systems consistently available.
Coordinating Internal Systems

A company could have any number of internal computer-based systems, and the architect is placed in charge of coordinating them. This could include combining data from multiple systems into coherent summaries, making provisions for missing and conflicting data as well as markers associated with similar data that means different things in the different systems. Data architects also decide when the data can be summarized or when it must be displayed in full.

Physical Environment

Data architects are also frequently tasked with evaluating the physical environment that affects data systems such as areas of operation, hardware design and storage devices used.
Communication and Coordination

Data architects are expected to communicate, both verbally and in written form with an array of individuals including management, stockholders and the rest of the IT team. Architects need to understand the practices of departments like production, development and quality assurance to coordinate their data storing needs.
Education, Experience and Salary

Bachelor's degrees are required for all data architecture positions and many employers prefer a master's degree. Also important to employers is job experience, with most preferring hires have eight to 10 years of experience as an architect. Each programing language you are certified in helps. According to Salary Wizard, the average yearly base salary of a data architect is $58,777.
