Isle is a small resort community in central Minnesota. The resorts in Isle offer a variety of activities involving the lake, which is popular for walleye fishing. Isle camping in Minnesota includes campgrounds and resorts that offer year-round outdoor activities.

  1. Geography

    • Isle is on the southeast end of Mille Lacs Lake in central Minnesota. This lake, according to Guide to Isle Minnesota, covers 132,500 acres and is the second largest inland lake in Minnesota.

    Types of Camping

    • Campgrounds have RV, tent and primitive campsites along with wilderness cabins. The resorts are on the waterfront and provide lakefront cabins and air conditioned accommodations for individuals and large groups.

    State Park

    • Father Hennepin State Park has two campgrounds, fishing piers, boat access, swimming beach and hiking trails. Accommodations include drive-in campsites, handicapped accessible sites and group camp sites that accommodate 12 to 25 campers.

    Water Activities

    • Rent a boat or pontoon, enjoy a half day or full day of private fishing guide services or join a group launch which tours the lake and locates hot fishing spots for walleye, muskie, northern pike, or 40 other species of fish in the lake. Other water sports to enjoy when camping in Isle, Minnesota, include water skiing, sailing and canoeing.

    Area Attractions

    • Take in a round of golf on the challenging 18-hole course of 6,200 yards. For bicycle and ATV riders there is the Soo line trail which brings bikers 12 miles and ATV riders all the way to Superior, Wisconsin.

    Seasonal

    • Isle camping in Minnesota continues during the winter as the ice and snow provide a wintery playground for guided ice fishing trips in sleeper ice houses, ice house rentals from area resorts and cross country skiing and snowmobiling on the trails.
