Quality assurance nurses have varied job descriptions, depending on the medical facility in which they work. Some QA nurses focus on patient care, while others deal with compliance issues and regulations.

  1. Education

    • QA nurses do not have a specific education requirement outside of nursing credentials. Some QA nurses are licensed practical nurses, while others are registered nurses who may hold a bachelor's or master's in nursing.

    Duties

    • All medical facilities have regulation requirements that need to be followed. The QA nurse would be the one to enforce these regulations. A QA nurse might ensure that all staff members in a facility have the appropriate licenses and credentials. A QA nurse in a hospital might communicate between an insurance company and a patient's physicians to make sure everyone's needs are being met.

    Salary

    • While pay for QA nurses varies, RNs in general earned a median salary of $62,500 and LPNs earned a median salary of $39,030 in May 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    Work Environment

    • QA nurses work in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, physician's offices, research facilities, urgent care centers and nursing homes.

    Job Outlook

    • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job prospects for nurses is expected to grow about 22 percent between 2008 and 2018, much faster than average for all other occupations.
