About Career Step Medical Transcription Training
Career Step began providing online learning programs in the fields of medical transcription and medical billing and coding in 1992. As of 2010, Career Step has provided training for over 50,000 domestic and international students.

Educational Components

In addition to learning medical terminology and how to operate dictation equipment, students enrolled in the medical transcription program have access to 41 hours of taped dictation sessions for transcription practice. A student can access all of his coursework via Career Step’s online portal.
Duration

The Career Step medical transcription program encompasses approximately 570 hours of study. A student devoting 40 hours per week to the medical transcription program would complete her training in less than four months.

Tuition Cost

As of July 2010, the tuition cost for Career Step’s medical transcription equaled $1,875. Career Step offers an installment plan that breaks tuition into four monthly payments, which are charged to the student’s credit card.
Considerations

Students have one year from the time of enrollment to complete the medical transcription program. If a student does not complete the program within this time frame, he must pay an additional fee to re-activate his enrollment in four-month increments.
