Habitat

The Redbud tree prefers deep, moist soil that is well drained. Mainly found growing in the understory of woodlands. The Redbud often grows at a slant as it reaches for sunlight.
Size

The Redbud tree grows to a mature height of 15 to 30 feet tall. It has a canopy spread of 10 to 20 feet, with a trunk measuring from 6 to 10 inches in diameter.

The leaves of the Redbud tree are alternate and heart shaped. They are smooth on the edges and smooth in texture.
Fruit

The Redbud tree bears a bean shaped pod in late spring. The bean contains numerous small black to dark brown seeds.

The Redbud tree actually belongs to the pea family. The Honeylocust, Wisteria, and the Kentucky Coffee Tree are also relatives of the Redbud.
