Vents are an important part of the plumbing in every house.

Most people don’t realize that there’s more to plumbing than pipes and faucets. Without the vent, the water wouldn’t flow. Just like a vent in a gas can, a vent allows air in so that water can get out. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Gurgling

    • Vent problems often make gurgling sounds.

    Clogged

    • Clogged vents cause the water to drain slow or not at all. Cleaning the vents helps to eliminate the problem.

    Location

    • Vents that are too far from the plumbing cause slow draining and gurgling sounds. Install the vent closer to the plumbing.

    Cover

    • Bees can make nests in vents. Cover the opening to prevent bugs and dirt from getting into the vent hole.

    On Roof

    • Vents should be visible at least six inches above the roof. If you don’t see the vent on top of the roof, then it’s likely slipped down. Many layers of roofing can hide a vent as well.
