Pumice Stone vs. Nail File

Nail files and pumice stones are both essential tools in spas and beauty salons. However, while nail files are used for both manicures and pedicures, pumice stones are strictly used on the feet.

Nail Files

A nail file is a tool used to grind down and shape the edges of nails. Several types of nail files are available.

Nail File Types

Nail files can be made of metal, ceramic, or glass. Emery boards are another type of nail file. They are made of emery paper and cardboard, making them less abrasive to the nails.

Pumice Stones

A pumice stone is a pedicure tool used to gently file away calluses and other rough spots on the feet. They come in several shapes and colors.

Pumice Stone Function

To use a pumice stone, soak your feet in warm, soapy water. Gently rub the stone back and forth across rough patches on the feet until they begin to feel softer.

Warning

Be gentle when using a pumice stone. Rubbing too hard can break the skin and cause bleeding. Follow up with moisturizer after each use to keep the skin soft.
