Homeopathic Treatment for Human Mange

Homeopathic Treatment for Human Mange thumbnail
Mange can infest humans.

Mange, an itchy dermatological condition caused by mites, is common in cats and dogs. There is also a human form of mange, referred to as sarcoptic mange or scabies. Homeopathic remedies have been used to treat this problem. Based on the belief that "like cures like," each treatment is prescribed based on specific symptoms as well as a patient's concomitant symptoms and personality type.

  1. Sulphur

    • Salve
      Salve

Sulphur is a common homeopathic treatment for mange that can be applied externally with a salve to the affected area of the skin or taken orally. Sulphur is used for reoccurring scabies; tingling, itching, burning and soreness in the bends of finger joints; and rough and scaly skin. Concomitant symptoms may include discomfort when standing; skin that is sensitive to atmospheric changes; stooped shoulders; dry hair and skin; or skin infections. Sulphur is used with those of nervous and/or abrupt temperament who are quick-moving.

    Psorinum

    • Psorinum is used for cases of reoccurring scabies that do not respond well to conventional treatments or sulphur. It is used when symptoms include eruptions in the bends of elbows that occur during winter and abate during summer and extreme itching, especially when warm. Concomitant symptoms include dirty skin; dermatological problems; slow healing; offensive odor; skin ulcers; and emaciation in children. The personality type is indolent.

    Licopodium Clavatum

    • Lycopodium Clavatum is made from the spores of moss and is used to treat persons with yellowish brown, moist and pus-filled eruptions on the abdomen, extremities, scalp and genitals; and itching that worsens with heat and improves with cold. Concomitant symptoms include flatulence; weak digestion; and weak muscular strength. This personality type has a keen intellect; craves warmth and has an aversion to cold; is sensitive to noises and odors; and craves sweets.

    Arsenicum Album

    • Arsenicum Alb, or Ars Alb, is an extreme dilution of the poison arsenic and is best for persons with itchy, burning, dry or pus-filled eruptions on the bends of knees that are made worse at night after undressing. Concomitant symptoms include digestion problems; dehydration; and burning pains. The personality type is depressed and/or indifferent; anxious, restless or fearful; irritable and/or sensitive.

    Carbo Vegatabilis

    • Carbo Vegetabilis, or Carbo Veg, is made from vegetable charcoal and is used to treat persons with dry, itchy eruptions that cover most of the body or eruptions that are worse on the extremities after undressing at night and with the application of hot or cold. Concomitant symptoms include flatulence; indigestion; sluggishness. This personality type is lazy; may have chronic complaints or be still recovering from a previous illness; and has low vitality.

    Considerations

    • There are several symptoms, concomitant symptoms and personality traits that are considered when treating a patient besides those mentioned. A professional homeopathic physician should be contacted to receive an accurate diagnosis and prescription. Other treatments to consider for the treatment of mange include Causticum, Heper Sulph and Sepia.
