Paramedics are first responders who transport patients who are sick or injured to hospitals, providing care along the way. Paramedics who complete advanced certifications are at an advantage when seeking employment, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    • Paramedic is the highest of the five levels of certification awarded by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, according to the BLS. Advanced paramedic training expands on the skills learned at the basic and intermediate EMT levels.

    • Advanced training prepares paramedics to perform tasks that include administering medicine, intubating patients and using heart monitors.
