Nerve glides are exercises used to glide through the carpal tunnel to reduce congestion, improve lubrication in the tendons and minimize microscopic adhesion. These exercises should be done in a peaceful place so that you will be more aware of your body's reaction.

  1. Median Nerve Glide

    • You will put your arm to the side behind you, palms forward and pull your wrist back until you feel tension, relax the wrist forward. Another median nerve glide is to ease tension in the arms and tilt your head back until you feel tension, then straighten the neck. The last is to ease tension in the wrist and hold these positions, than raise your arms until tension is felt and lower the wrist.

    Ulnar Nerve Glide

    • This exercise is done by holding your arms out and to the side with your fingers in a gentle curve. Rotate your arm fully and gently tilt your head until tension is felt, then you will straighten the neck.

    Radial Nerve Glide

    • You will place your hands at your side and face the back of your hand forward and push your shoulders towards the floor. You will bend your wrist back and move until you feel tension.

    Caution

    • When performing nerve glide exercises you should stretch gently to prevent flare-ups.

    Time

    • You should hold the position of the exercises for 10 seconds. All the exercises should be repeated 10 times.
