Why Is My Cat Losing Hair in a Patch?

There are reasons for hair loss in cats.

Fleas

Mites

Mites are responsible for mange. Cats will lick and chew themselves to get rid of the itching. Your vet can prescribe a topical solution to get rid of the mites.

Ringworm

Ringworm is a fungus that causes hair loss around the face and feet. Oral and topical medications can treat this. Be warned that ringworm spreads to humans, and children are particularly susceptible.

Allergies

Your cat may be allergic to his food. In this case the itchiness, redness and hair loss is around the head and face.

Stress

Cats can get stressed and anxious. If your cat has had a major change in his environment, that may lead to excessive licking and grooming. Your vet can prescribe anti-anxiety medications if you suspect he is chronically stressed.
