What Is a Healthy Diet for a Person With Hypoglycemia?

Because hypoglycemia is a condition in which the blood sugar is abnormally low, it is important to choose the proper diet that will help balance the rate of glucose released from the liver. Although there are major foods and drinks that all hypoglycemics should avoid, the proper healthy diet for a hypoglycemic can differ from one person to the other.

  1. Significance

    • Since there is no one good diet for those suffering from hypoglycemia, choosing the proper one for your condition is crucial to maintain your body's proper blood sugar levels, therefore preventing the symptoms of the condition which can include: dizziness, weakness, mood swings, headaches and allergies. The body's individual nutritional biochemistry of such a diet needs to be adjusted by your physician.

    Basic Diet

    • Eliminate any major foods, drinks or chemicals from your diet that will ignite hypoglycemia and its symptoms including: sugar, white flour, alcohol, caffeine and tobacco. Replace these foods with wholesome grains, lean meats and allowable fruits.

    Warning

    • If addicted to one of the before mentioned foods or drinks, you should eliminate them at a slow pace to prevent a withdrawal effect or shock to the system.

    Benefits

    • When a proper diet is chosen and adhered to, the levels of blood sugar are balanced and hypoglycemics can live long, healthy lives.
