Seroquel is the brand name for a generic drug known as quetiapine fumerate. According to the manufacturer AstraZeneca, Seroquel is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia and several types of bipolar disorder.

According to the Food and Drug Administration's Orange Book, Seroquel is available in two dosage forms in the U.S.: Seroquel and Seroquel XR.

According to AstraZeneca, Seroquel is available in 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 400 mg tablets. Seroquel XR comes in 50, 150, 200, 300, and 400 mg tablets.

Seroquel tablets vary in size, color, and shape to reflect the dose. Twenty-five mg tablets of Seroquel, for example, are round peach tablets while 200 mg tablets of Seroquel XR are yellow capsules inscribed with "XR 200".
Time Frame

Seroquel may be given either once, twice, or three times a day, depending on the person's diagnosis and how she responds to the drug. Seroquel XR is taken once a day, preferably in the evening.
Warnings

Both forms of Seroquel carry black box warnings, indicating the potential for serious adverse effects. These include increased mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis and increased risk of suicide in children, teens, and young adults.
