The Hershey Company introduced the Take 5 candy bar in December of 2004. The "5" in the name was chosen because of the five principal ingredients. It was released in Canada under the brand name "Max 5."

The candy bar has a distinctive combination of salty and sweet flavors. It consists of a pretzel base that is covered in several layers of caramel, peanuts and peanut butter. The outer shell that covers these ingredients is made from milk chocolate.

In addition to the classic Take 5, the Hershey Company debuted the White Chocolate and Peanut Butter versions in 2005. There was also a limited edition Chocolate Cookie bar released in 2006, which replaced the pretzel base with chocolate cookie.

According to the wrapper, there are 11 grams of fat and 180 mg of sodium in the original version of the candy bar. Every Take 5 also contains 210 calories, with 100 coming from the fat content.

Two separate pieces of candy bar come in a standard rectangular red package with metallic gold lettering. The White Chocolate product has a white wrapper, and the Peanut Butter version has a yellow wrapper.

In February 2005, Hershey partnered with NASCAR to sponsor the Hershey's Take 5 300 NASCAR Busch Series race, which featured a special Take 5 Chevrolet racecar.
