Difference between a Regular and Enlarged Uterus

A regular uterus is about the size of an apple or clenched fist. An enlarged uterus is distended, and often compared tothe size a uterus might be at later stages of pregnancy.
Symptoms

An enlarged uterus is most noticeable when it causes mild, stabbing pains. However, as it becomes more distended, you may notice a swelling of the abdomen, similar to a pregnancy bump.

Causes

An enlarged uterus maybe caused by a variety of issues. The most common causes of an enlarged uterus are uterine fibroids, uterine cancer and, rarely, menopause.
Affects

An enlarged uterus usually has very little effect outside of its symptoms. However, it can negatively impact fertility.
Treatment

Treatment for an enlarged uterus is dependent upon the cause. Common treatments, especially in the case of uterine fibroids, are medication, myomectomy and hysterectomy.
